Girls Bedding

Girls bedding can be used to change the look of a bedroom in the blink of an eye. Finally - it's ok to be fickle! We all know that as children grow, their tastes change. But redecorating around the latest fad can be an expensive proposition.

Luckily, the costs of kids bed sets has steadily decreased over the years and it is now easy to change themes almost as quickly as a little girl changes her mind. However - for a room to work with just about any bed in a bag set, some basics need to be in place. This is  one situation where a little up front planning will go a long way.

There are two things decide upon at the beginning.

1. Do you want the girls bedding to set the theme?
2. Or, do you want all of the accessories and decorations to set the theme?
   

If you decide to have the bed set create the theme then decorating the rest of the room in neutral colors is the way to go. But when I say this I must preface it with the fact that neutral in no way, shape, or form, is equal to boring. What I mean is that the tone should lend itself to a variety of different patterns.

Ask your daughter what her favorite color is. Use a variation of this color to paint the walls. Pick something that she can grow with. If it is pink and purple that she loves - but you think it might be short lived, then choose a shade of these colors that might have more longevity. Or incorporate the color via room accents. Remember that you want the color to be versatile enough to fit in with a variety of different flavors of sheets and comforters. Also, remember that typically walls will need to be repainted every five years or so - so there will be an opportunity down the road to switch colors yet again.

Under the decision to deck the more permanent elements of the room in neutrals - window dressings and rugs should not be overlooked. These items can be costly - so deciding on a universal pattern will allow you to invest a bit more in these items as they should last a long time.

The actual linens, sheets, dust ruffles, comforters, etc, in this case, do not have to necessarily be of high quality. Since the plan is to switch these out every so often - shop at discount stores, Amazon, Target, or Walmart. Keep in mind that lower priced quilts and comforters tend to be a bit thin and carry a low thread count. If you live in a cold climate, invest in a good quality blanket in a plain color. You will be able to use this blanket with any bed set.

If you opt to let the room accents create the theme - then your job will be to find high quality girls bedding in a pleasing yet universal neutral pattern. Shop with your daughter and find a solid colored comforter, dust ruffle, etc that will blend with a lot of different types of decor. Quality is important here because the set should hold up for several years.

Dress the quilt up with pillow shams and decorative bolsters that contribute to the look that you are trying to achieve. For a younger girl - this might be something that portrays her favorite character. For older girls, it might be a favorite sport. Use toys and objects to also set the tone. Princess dolls displayed on the bed, and a selection of ritzy tiaras on reachable shelf create a castle in any room. Storing a surfboard or skis in a similarly themed room create an instant display out of might have been perceived as clutter.

Posters, wall hangings, and vinyl clings can help to dress up the walls under either option.
